Synopsis of the Play
In Victorian London, brilliant scientist Dr. Henry Jekyll is bored with his dull, respectable life. In an attempt to free his darker instincts, he invents a mysterious formula that transforms him into the wild and brutal Edward Hyde. At first, Hyde revels in his freedom and indulgence, while Jekyll’s ordinary life goes on unchanged. But as Hyde’s reckless behavior escalates into violence and death, Jekyll struggles with the terrifying consequences of unleashing the darkest parts of himself. Two haunting chorus figures embody inner voices that drive him toward both triumph and tragedy in this psychological thriller exploring the dual nature of humanity.
About the Director: Matteo Pasquini is an Italian theatre director and actor based in The Hague. He has been trained as an actor with focus on method acting, physical theatre, and acting for the camera. He has starred in lead roles in several stage and film productions. With a broad characterization range up his sleeve, Matteo is at ease both in fast-paced comedy and in drama with deep characters and emotions. More info on IMDb and Instagram.

Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Edward Hyde: A respected Victorian doctor who creates a potion to separate his good and evil sides. Jekyll’s dark alter ego. Violent, impulsive, and ruthless, he embodies the evil Jekyll suppresses.

The Butler: Loyal and observant, he serves Jekyll faithfully and grows concerned as his master’s behavior becomes increasingly strange. And: Jekyll's subconscious.

The Maid: A household servant who witnesses key events and helps reveal the unfolding mystery. And: Jekyll’s second subconscious.

Gabriel John Utterson: A level-headed lawyer and Jekyll’s friend. He investigates the strange link between Jekyll and Hyde.

Dr. Hastie Lanyon: Jekyll’s old friend and fellow doctor. Skeptical of Jekyll’s experiments, his discoveries have major consequences.

Richard Enfield: A young gentleman, somewhat arrogant and a nephew of Utterson, just proposed to his fiancée, and leads a double life involving visits to women of ill repute. He is the first to recount the unsettling encounter with Hyde.

Helen: A kind and compassionate American woman, fiancée of Richard Enfield. She has a great admiration for Jekyll’s work.

Cybel: A worldly and provocative figure, working as a courtesan. She reflects the darker, hidden side of Victorian society and mirrors Hyde’s impulses.
